Paula Byrne is a Dublin based textile artist who uses a unique process involving free motion machine embroidery, together with acrylic and fabric paints on canvas, to create handcrafted, individual designs and landscapes.
Taught to sew by her mother and grandmother, Paula Byrne hails from a Dublin city family with a long tradition in the creative industries – among them tailors, shoemakers, pattern cutters, and box-makers - and has always appreciated and understood the value of beautiful, handcrafted products and artwork. What started as a hobby at her kitchen table quickly became a business once Byrne started selling her work through word of mouth. These early commissions eventually led to a weekly pitch at the Merrion Square Art Market, alongside studies in Textile Design Embroidery at NCAD, and now Byrne works full time from her studio in Dublin 7, taking her back to the home of her creative ancestry.
Paula’s work was presented in the Enterprise Zone at Showcase 2015, the international design and crafts trade show, at the RDS, Dublin 18th – 21st January 2015.
